Malta is very active at the moment in marketing the country’s strategic positioning and is attracting various industries to Malta. Internet gambling companies, software companies, offshore banks and investment companies are setting up like wildfire at the moment due to very attractive tax rates and benefits that our government is offering to these industries. A website that should be interesting to look to get a more broad perspective of tax benefits would be Malta Enterprise website which is www.maltaenterprise.com.

There are apparently 90 Gambling companies already set up in Malta and over 50 more applications. Microsoft Corporation and other large software development companies like Uniblue Systems and GFI are set up in Malta as well and this is just a start with the new SmartCity@Malta being set up shortly that will attract over 3000 jobs in the IT sector. SmartCity@Malta is going to be an IT City similar to the one in Dubai www.dubaiinternetcity.com and it will bring all the big, medium and small players in the IT Sector with a Maltese vision of being a centre for Europe and North Africa. Negotiations are being finalised and should this happen this will effect the Maltese economy dramatically including the Real Estate Industry.

In Malta we have all of the famous 4 Auditing firms; Deloitte, Price Waterhouse Coopers, KPMG and Ernst & Young and various knowledgeable law firms that are always ready to send you a bill…of course for some good advice that will save you lots of time and money.

So basically, the infrastructure is set up to receive companies with open arms and plenty of companies are taking advantage of the benefits.

Weather

Malta’s weather and climate are strongly influenced by the sea and have a very characteristic Mediterranean flavour, similar to that found in southern Italy or southern Greece. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers, warm and sporadically wet autumns, and short, cool winters with adequate rainfall. Nearly three-fourths of the total annual rainfall of about 600 millimeters (24 inches) falls between October and March; June, July, and August are normally quite dry.

The temperature is very stable, the annual mean being 18ºC (64ºF) and the monthly averages ranging from 12º C (54ºF) to 31ºC (88ºF). Winds are strong and frequent; the most common are the cool northwesterly (majjistral), the dry northeasterly (grigal, or gregale), and the hot humid southeasterly (xlokk, or sirocco). The relative humidity is consistently high and rarely falls below 40%.

Hotel Resorts

Over the years Malta has seen practically all the main 5-star Hotel chains set up shop. The Intercontinental, the Hilton Malta, Le’Meridean, Westin and the Radisson all provide the normal hotel rooms, conference facilities and fine dining at very reasonable prices. All these hotels are located in the St. Julian’s areas and are very easily accessible.
