Swimming Pool Ideas for An Apartment in Malta

Learn all about the types of swimming pools available for your apartment or any type of property in Malta or Gozo.

It’s no secret that summers in Malta can be scorching! But with hot summers come days by the pool, soaking up the sun, lounging and lazing with an ice-cold drink.

Real estate in Malta has seen a rise in apartments for sale, so an increasing number of pool companies are offering creative ways to add a swimming pool to these types of properties in Malta or Gozo. Not sure where to begin? We’ve got a few ideas to get your cogs turning.

1. Plunge Pool

Most apartments in Malta don’t come with enough space for an entire swimming pool. So, you may need to get creative – and that’s where a plunge pool comes in. Unlike larger pools built for swimming, a plunge is a compact version designed for lounging and cooling off. These can be built-in, but there are also plenty of options for above-ground varieties, and they’re significantly cheaper and easier to install. All you need is some decking and a small set of stairs, and you’ve got your dream lounge area for a fraction of what you’d expect!

Infinity Pools

2. Infinity Pools

Nothing screams luxury more than an infinity pool. They’re the perfect way to cool off while you look down at a bustling town or rural surroundings below. The good news? You don’t need to find a built-in one, as there are plenty of above-ground infinity options! If you have a waterfront view from your apartments and want to show it off, have your infinity pool overlook the water – it will make it feel like it’s dropping off into the horizon!

3. Spa Pool

A spa pool is a great way to go if you want to add a little wellness to your life. This is basically a hybrid option that you can enjoy all year round – heated in the winter and cool in summer. A spa pool has many added benefits. The warm water and soothing jets relieve pain from tense muscles and joints. It’s also excellent for combatting stress and anxiety, and improving sleep quality – just picturing it is enough to calm you down!

Lap Pool

4. Lap Pool

If you’re seriously into fitness but are limited with space, you might want to consider a lap pool in a large type of property in Malta or Gozo like a farmhouse for sale. Whether you do a few laps as part of your morning routine or cool off at the end of the day, they’re the perfect way to get you moving! Plus, on rest days, they can still turn into the perfect spot to lounge with friends and enjoy a day by the pool. Since lap pools are typically shallow and narrow, they’re ideal for the long property type lots that are typical in Malta. Lap pools can be built above-ground, making them an excellent, budget-friendly option.

5. Above-Ground Pools

While most of the options mentioned can be made into above-ground pools, there is also a wide array of standard elevated pools to choose from. These typically come in round or oval shapes, are made from various materials, and vary in depth. From steel to inflatables – there’s a pool for every budget! With careful planning and a sprinkle of creativity, you can create your dream pool area at a fraction of the price of a built-in.

Communal Swimming Pool

6. Communal Swimming Pool

If adding a pool to your apartment seems tricker than it’s worth, looking to rent or buy an apartment with a communal swimming pool is the next best thing. These apartment blocks or complexes typically have a central courtyard to connect residents to the pool and lounge area. With the convenience and accessibility of having this right outside your front door, you’ll hardly mind that there will be a few more people to share the space with when you want to spend a day by the pool. The more the merrier, right?!

Type of swimming pool for your needs

If you’ve decided to add a swimming pool to your apartment or any type of property in Malta or Gozo, there are a few extra things to consider:

  • Sun vs Shade – the sun will keep your pool warmer for longer but will burn off chlorine faster. Shade will offer protection from the sun but will keep your pool cooler.
  • Permits! Do you need one? Always check with the Planning Authority
  • Pick a material that suits the elements. If choosing an above-ground pool, the weather will heavily impact the type of material you choose for your swimming pool.
  • Swimming pools need love, too. Pools may need extra filtration systems, pumps and maintenance. Make sure to factor these in when choosing the right swimming pool.
  • Accessories. Think about what sort of extra accessories your pool will need, like a pool cover, ladder, or stairs. These can be pricey, so just make sure you’ve thought of everything before you sign on the dotted line!

No matter the choice, adding a pool to your apartment in Malta or any other type of property will be a great way to bring your family and friends together to create beautiful memories. Plus, it may add significant value to your real estate in Malta too!
